History
Aqua Bounty
Technologies was initially established in 1993 as a division within
A/F Protein (A/F), a biotechnology company specializing
in the commercial development of products that exploit the unique
properties of antifreeze proteins. Named Aqua Bounty Farms at
the time, the division tapped the properties of the antifreeze
gene promoter to create the AquAdvantage transgene
used to develop rapidly growing salmon, trout and other finfish.
In March of 2000, A/F spun off Aqua Bounty as an independent entity.
The company organized the Pacific division in 2003 and adopted
the name Aqua Bounty Technologies to better reflect the range
of genetic, therapeutic and diagnostic products under development.
